STONE SOUR: 'Digital (Did You Tell)' Video To Debut Tomorrow
November 3, 2010"Digital (Did You Tell)", the new video from STONE SOUR — the band featuring SLIPKNOT members Corey Taylor (vocals) and Jim Root (guitar) — will make its online debut tomorrow (Thursday, November 4) at 10 a.m. U.K. time via uk.myspace.com. The clip was directed by Paul R. Brown, who previously worked with STONE SOUR on the "30/30-150", "Say You'll Haunt Me" and "Hesistate" videos as well as on clips from SLIPKNOT, MÖTLEY CRÜE, KORN, GODSMACK and AVENGED SEVENFOLD, among others.
In an interview with Roadrunner Records, Taylor stated about the "Digital (Did You Tell)" track, "'Digital (Did You Tell)' is a tune that Jim brought in. I'm fairly certain that it was the last tune to come in. It came together very quickly. It was a tune that he had been working on and then he kind of slowly but surely started letting other people hear the music. And we were all just thrown for a loop; it was so good that we were, like, 'Ah, dude, we've gotta work on this.' So the guys put together a rather long cut of it and then once I wrote the lyrics, we kind of chopped it down to fit with the song feel and the song vibe. It was the song that really set the standard. It was, like, 'OK, now everything's gotta feel as good as this tune.' So by the time we went into the studio to record, there was an excitement in the music that was gonna happen because of 'Digital', because we had that one tune that was just like... It was different but it was exciting. It was prog, but it was rock, and it was just all these really great things. It was just a great showcase for the band — everyone in the band has a great hero moment in that song, and it felt really good to record."
Regarding the lyrical inspiration for "Digital (Did You Tell)", Taylor said, "Lyrically, it's basically about the isolation of the digital age where more and more people are afraid to come out of their bubble, more and more people are afraid to come out of their cocoon. They'd rather sit in front of an electric screen and pour their hate or pour their emotions anonymously into the world. And there's nothing cathartic about that; there's nothing healthy about that. And it's basically [just saying], 'Take a break, unplug, live your life for a while. Get out and experience life while you can because it could be gone [snaps fingers] like that.'"
"Digital (Did You Tell)" comes off STONE SOUR's third album, "Audio Secrecy", which was released on September 7 and debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard album chart, selling 46,000 copies in its first week of release.
When asked why STONE SOUR is planning to release a different second single in the U.K. ("Digital (Did You Tell)") than in the U.S. ("Hesitate"),drummer Roy Mayorga stated in a recent interview, "From what I'm gathering, some songs work better in different countries. Like, say, 'Digital' is a heavier kind of tune, so in our genre it works better in the U.K. And a song like 'Hesitate' would work better in the States. They just gauge it off from [how previous singles have performed in] the past."
STONE SOUR recently completed the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar festival tour with DISTURBED, AVENGED SEVENFOLD and others.
